(Santee, CA) A 37-year-old man was arrested Sunday night, October 19, following a Mission Gorge Road collision that injured another driver and ended in a hit-and-run attempt, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded around 9:27 p.m. to the 9000 block of Mission Gorge Road. They received reports of a multi-vehicle crash near Fanita Drive. Investigators said the suspect, identified as Robert Panza, had been speeding moments before crashing into a second vehicle. As a result, he left the injured driver behind and fled on foot toward the San Diego River.
Authorities established a containment perimeter and, with assistance from a K9 unit, patrol helicopter, and tips from nearby residents, located Panza hiding under vehicles and in bushes. Police took him into custody without further incident.
