(Santee, CA) A minor riding an e-motorcycle sustained non-life-threatening injuries in a Mission Gorge Road accident.
The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office reported the collision at approximately 1:50 p.m. Tuesday, March 24. The incident occurred in the 10100 block of Mission Gorge Road near Riverview Parkway. The minor traveled on an e-motorcycle in the roadway. Deputies determined the rider created a traffic hazard moments before being struck. A passing vehicle struck the minor on the e-motorcycle. The impact caused the juvenile to lose control and fall off the e-motorcycle.
The driver of the vehicle fled the scene before deputies arrived. Paramedics responded and transported the victim to a hospital. The victim received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. The extent of the injuries was not disclosed to the public.
While deputies were at the scene, several additional riders, all presumed to be minors, fled the area. The other riders crossed center medians and entered oncoming traffic. Their actions nearly caused additional collisions on the roadway. Deputies did not pursue the fleeing juveniles. Officers remained focused on the injured victim from the hit-and-run crash.
Review of the Mission Gorge Road Accident
When a hit-and-run collision injures a minor on an e-motorcycle, police examine traffic laws carefully. They work to identify the responsible driver. These reviews focus on driver responsibility and vehicle safety.
Officers examine the Hit-and-Run Law. This law requires drivers involved in injury collisions to stop. They must provide identifying information and render reasonable aid. Fleeing the scene is a serious criminal offense. The crime carries substantial penalties and prison time upon conviction.
Authorities may also review the Duty of Care Law. This law requires drivers to exercise reasonable care on roadways. Drivers must watch for other road users. E-motorcycles are smaller and harder to see than regular motorcycles. Drivers must remain alert for all types of vehicles.
Police may examine the Basic Speed Law. This law requires drivers to travel at safe speeds for conditions. Speed must be appropriate for visibility and traffic. Excessive speed prevents drivers from avoiding riders. These laws help explain what caused the Mission Gorge Road accident.
