Lake Elsinore, CA (September 3, 2024) The community of Lake Elsinore awoke to devastating news on Monday, September 2nd. In the early hours of morning, a two-vehicle collision claimed the life of 22-year-old Melissa Lopez. It happened on the 15 Freeway near Highway 74 at approximately 3:16 a.m.
It was 3:16 a.m. on southbound Interstate 15 on Monday, September 2nd, 2024, when two vehicles suddenly collided. A tow truck was heading along the southbound lanes when it was suddenly rear-ended by a white Chevy Cruze sedan, according to reports. The collision left the Chevy in mangled pieces of twisted metal, the California Highway Patrol indicated.
Flashing lights lit up the dark, early morning sky as emergency personnel hurried to the scene. Paramedics with the Riverside County Fire Department ran to the Chevy Cruze, hopeful, but fearing the worst. Sadly, they found 22-year-old Melissa Lopez inside the vehicle, deceased. With heavy hearts, they pronounced her dead at the scene and called for a coroner. Another person was found with life-threatening injuries and was rushed to a local hospital, via ambulance.

It took crews hours to clean up the scene, following the initial investigation. The wreckage that was once a Chevrolet Cruze was removed from the scene and the debris and glass were cleaned off the roadway. Officers are working to determine what exactly caused this fatal, two-vehicle collision, as well as who was at fault.
