(Los Angeles, CA) One person was injured early Thursday morning, December 18, in a Long Beach Freeway accident involving a head-on crash at the 710/60 interchange.

CHP officers responded around 1:47 a.m. to the northbound 710 Freeway at the eastbound Pomona (60) Freeway junction. They arrived to find a black Jeep Wrangler and a blue Honda SUV that had collided head-on in the middle lanes. Authorities found one person trapped in the Honda.  Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics arrived and extricated the victim. They transported them to a hospital in an unknown condition.

Debris from both vehicles was scattered across the freeway, and lane closures were required as crews cleared the scene. The investigation remains ongoing.

Overview on the Long Beach Freeway Accident

When vehicles collide head-on in freeway lanes, investigators often review the Lane Usage and Safe Movement Law. This law requires drivers to remain within their lanes unless a lane change can be completed safely. Determining how one of the vehicles entered the opposing direction of travel is central to understanding the Long Beach Freeway accident.

Because the crash occurred in a complex interchange where visibility and merging patterns can be challenging, analysts may examine the Basic Speed Law. This statute requires motorists to drive at speeds reasonable for traffic and roadway conditions. Even slight misjudgments at freeway speeds can reduce a driver’s ability to avoid a sudden oncoming vehicle.

Investigators may also reference the Following Too Closely Law. Although typically applied to rear-end collisions, the principles help assess whether traffic spacing and driver reactions contributed to the severity of the impact during this head-on crash at the interchange.

    Support for the Family

If someone you love was injured in this collision, request the CHP collision report once it becomes available. It will provide crucial details about how the crash occurred and the factors officers believe contributed to it.

You may also want to speak with a personal injury attorney who can help you navigate medical bills, lost income, and recovery-related expenses.

Lean on friends, family, and local support resources as you move through this difficult time. Sudden freeway crashes are overwhelming, and compassionate guidance can help you find stability in the days ahead.
