(Lancaster, CA) A 200th Street DUI crash resulted in the death of Israel Mendoza, 9, and his 14-year-old sister sustaining major injuries in Lancaster.
On Wednesday, July 30, the 200th Street DUI crash occurred. According to the California Highway Patrol, it happened on 200th Street, just south of Avenue G.
When officers investigated, they learned the driver of a 2019 Chevrolet Charger headed southbound on 200th street. Authorities have identified him as 23-year-old Christian Terrell Powell. At that moment, he slammed into a 2025 Honda. A 19-year-old woman drove the Honda, with Israel Mendoza and his sister inside the vehicle.
By the time paramedics arrived, they pronounced Mendoza dead from the 200th Street DUI crash site. First responders transported his sister to a hospital with major injuries, an update on her condition was not available. Police determined Powell was intoxicated and arrested him on suspicion of DUI.
Mendoza’s family set up a GoFundMe page to help cover funeral expenses as well as hospital bills for his sister.
