(Bakersfield, CA) A total of 11 people sustained injuries in a Highway 58 multi-car crash in Bakersfield.

On Thursday, at about 7:41 p.m., the Highway 58 multi-car crash occurred. According to the California Highway Patrol, it happened on Highway 58, just west of Highway 223. 

When authorities investigated, they learned a Ford F-350 drove westbound on Highway 223. Meanwhile, a Jeep drove on westbound Highway 58. All of a sudden, the Jeep slowed down for a stopped vehicle on the right shoulder. The Ford failed to see the slowdown, causing the collision.

The Ford struck the Jeep on the side, forcing it down a steep embankment. As the Ford continued, it struck a Chevy Malibu, which also went down an embankment, then hitting a GMC Yukon stopped in front of the Chevy. The Ford finally came to a stop after it overturned down an embankment, landing on top of the Chevy.

By the time paramedics arrived, they transported a total of 11 people to different hospitals with injuries ranging from minor to moderate. As a result of the Highway 58 multi-car crash, all lanes on the highway were blocked off.
