(Lebec, CA) Two juveniles were killed and a driver was arrested after a Golden State Freeway crash on Christmas Day near Vista Del Lago Road.
CHP officers responded just before 3 p.m. Thursday, December 25, and found a gold Toyota RAV4 in the median and a blue Nissan Rogue involved in the crash. Preliminary findings indicate the Nissan’s driver lost control and struck the rear of the Toyota. As a result, the crash ejected three juveniles from the Nissan. Despite lifesaving efforts, two children died at the scene.
Authorities arrested the driver, identified as Jorge Preciado, on suspicion of felony child endangerment. The victims’ ages and identities have not been released.
Overview on the Golden State Freeway Crash
In a collision where passengers are ejected, investigators often look closely at the Child Restraint System Law. This statute requires children to be properly secured in approved safety seats or restraints. Its application is central in reviewing whether proper restraints were used and how that may have affected the severity of injuries in the Golden State Freeway accident.
Because the crash involved a vehicle losing control on a major interstate, officers may also review the Basic Speed Law. This law requires drivers to maintain speeds that are reasonable and safe for conditions. Even if the posted limit was followed, factors like road grade, holiday traffic, or weather can influence control and stopping distance.
Investigators may further consider the Following Too Closely Law. Maintaining adequate space is critical on high-speed freeways. Analysts will evaluate whether the Nissan had enough distance to adjust before losing control and striking the Toyota, helping clarify contributing factors in the Golden State Freeway crash.
