(Los Angeles, CA) A 13-year-old child was killed and six others were injured Sunday night, December 14, in a Foothill Freeway collision on the westbound 210 in the Shadow Hills area.

Authorities received reports of the crash at 7:53 p.m. just east of the Sunland Boulevard off-ramp. Responding crews found multiple vehicles involved, including two that had rolled over. Officers pronounced one person found outside a vehicle dead at the scene. Authorities have identified the child to be Bryan Ceja.

Paramedics transported a 40-year-old man, a 30-year-old woman, and a 61-year-old man to hospitals in serious condition. Two additional patients had non-life-threatening injuries, and a sixth person declined transport. Witnesses told CHP that a black SUV or pickup truck was weaving in and out of lanes at high speed before the crash. All lanes of the 210 were shut down under a SigAlert and reopened gradually through the night.

Overview on the Foothill Freeway Collision

When witness reports describe a vehicle weaving through lanes at high speed, investigators often reference the Reckless Driving Law. This statute addresses willful or wanton disregard for safety. In a multi-vehicle setting, unsafe lane changes can trigger chain-reaction crashes like the one on the 210 Freeway.

Speed also becomes a critical factor, leading officers to assess the Basic Speed Law. This law requires motorists to drive at speeds reasonable for traffic and roadway conditions. Heavy evening traffic and the high-speed movements described by witnesses may have reduced the ability of surrounding drivers to react safely during the Foothill Freeway collision.

Because two vehicles rolled over and one person was reportedly outside a vehicle at the time of the fatal impact, investigators may examine the Lane Usage and Safe Movement Law. This statute requires drivers to remain within a single lane until movement can be made safely. Reviewing this law helps clarify how abrupt or unsafe maneuvers may have contributed to the crash dynamics.

    Support for the Families

If you are related to Bryan Ceja, you should request the official CHP collision report once it becomes available. It will provide crucial details about how the multi-vehicle sequence unfolded.

Families of Ceja and the injured may also want to consult personal injury or wrongful death attorneys experienced in freeway collisions. They can help you navigate medical bills, funeral arrangements, insurance issues, and long-term recovery needs.

Most importantly, lean on family, friends, and local support services. Sudden trauma and loss are overwhelming, and compassionate assistance can help you through the difficult days ahead.
