Elko, NV (May 29, 2024) A tragic collision took place on US Highway 93 in Elko, Nevada. on May 25th, claiming one person’s life and leaving several others injured. At least three vehicles were involved in this fatal collision, according to reports. Police officers said it started when one vehicle crossed the center divider line and ended up colliding with oncoming traffic.
A silver Volkswagen Jetta, a red Ford Explorer and a black Ford Expedition were all involved in this fatal collision, officers reported. The Expedition was traveling south on US-93 when it suddenly began to drift. It went over the center divider line and into oncoming traffic where it hit the Explorer, head-on. The impact forced the Expedition to spin. As it spun, the front of the Jetta collided with the right side of the Expedition, according to reports. The Expedition then went up and over the Jetta before overturning. It finally came to a stop on its wheels in the southbound lanes.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene with sirens wailing and lights flashing. Upon arrival, they found the three vehicles in the southbound lanes with significant damage. Paramedics hurried to the vehicles, ready to give aid to anyone in need of medical attention. Sadly, the passenger in the Jetta had been killed in the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene. Several other people had sustained injuries from minor to serious, officers said. Most were transported to hospitals in Nevada and Utah to receive treatment.
Police Officers investigated the scene, gathered evidence and took statements from not only those involved but also those who witnessed the accident. They are still working to determine what caused the Expedition to drift into oncoming traffic. They had to call a two truck to remove at least one of the vehicles from the scene and crews worked to clean up the glass and debris that had littered the roadway.
