Bakersfield, CA (June 27, 2024) The community of Bakersfield was shocked to learn about a head-on collision on the China Grade Loop on Thursday morning. The collision left three people with injuries, reports indicated. It happened shortly after 7:00 a.m. on June 27th, at the intersection of Getty Freeway.

An early morning drive took a stressful turn for commuters on Thursday morning, June 27th, in Bakersfield. A white pickup was traveling on the China Grade Loop when, for reasons still unknown, it collided with another vehicle, head-on, near the Getty Freeway. The impact sent the pickup rolling over until it came to a stop on top of a pipe in an oilfield, officers reported. The pickups axle came off as it rolled and one person became trapped inside the pickup, reports indicated.

Emergency personnel arrived at the scene and found the pickup completely dented and laying on the pipe. The other vehicle involved was on the roadway with major damage, according to reports. Officials hurried to the pickup to see if anyone was injured. All three occupants sustained injuries, but one was found trapped. Fire fighters at the scene used special tools to remove the victim from the damaged vehicle. The trapped person sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition. The other two victims only had minor injuries and were treated at the scene, police said.

Crews worked to remove the overturned pickup truck from the pipe in the oilfield once all of the evidence had been gathered from the scene. A tow truck was called to remove the pickup from the scene and the trail of glass and debris left behind had to be removed. Officers are working to determine what caused this accident and who was responsible.
