Lancaster, CA (July 2, 2024) Several people were injured on Monday, July 1st, in Lancaster when a pickup truck pulling a boat crashed into an ambulance. The accident occurred at the intersection of Avenue J and Division Street at approximately 3:20 p.m., according to the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station. The ambulance was transporting someone to a hospital at the time of the accident, reports indicated.
A Dodge Ram pickup truck was pulling a boat along Division Street, heading south, in Lancaster. At the same time, an American Response ambulance was headed to Antelope Valley Medical Center on the same road, approaching the pickup. The ambulance began to turn onto Avenue J on a yellow light. Witnesses reported that the vehicle did not have its lights or sirens on as it hurried through the intersection. As it drove through the intersection, it was hit by the pickup truck, which was in the no. 1 lane of traffic, pulling a boat.
Deputies with the Lancaster Sheriff’s Department arrived at the scene and found the intersection blocked by the damaged ambulance and pickup truck. They found that the paramedics inside the ambulance had sustained injuries in the collision. Another ambulance was called to the scene to transport the patient inside the damaged ambulance, as well as the paramedics to Antelope Valley Medical Center to receive treatment.
Officers spoke to witnesses at the scene and gathered evidence before having the ambulance towed from the scene. They are working to determine what exactly happened at that Lancaster intersection and who was responsible for this accident. Crews worked to clean up the debris that was left on the roadway from the collision.
