Camarillo, CA (April 14, 2024) A chaotic collision was caused by a wrong-way driver on the 101 Freeway near Camarillo on Sunday morning. At least 20 people were injured in this 11-vehicle collision that occurred just after midnight on April 14th. Two of the twenty injured victims were rushed to a local hospital in critical condition, according to police officers.

It was just after midnight on Sunday, April 14th, in Camarillo. Traffic on the 101 Freeway was moving along when suddenly, a vehicle heading south began driving in the northbound lanes. The vehicle didn’t get very far, according to officers, until it caused a crash. Reports indicated that the car hit several vehicles, head-on, and a total of 11 vehicles were involved in this massive traffic accident.

Emergency crews arrived at the scene and found what looked like a disaster area. 11 vehicles blocked the freeway, each with significant damage. Glass and debris were flung in all directions and even liquid from some of the vehicles trickled onto the roadway. Police officers and firefighters quickly worked to check each vehicle. They found at least 20 people with injuries from this collision, officers reported. Two victims were trapped inside their vehicle and firefighters had to utilize specialized tools to free them. They were both rushed to a nearby hospital to receive treatment for possible life-threatening injuries.

The Freeway was closed for hours as tow trucks began removing damaged vehicles from the roadway. Crews also diligently worked to clear the freeway of glass and debris. Investigators are working to try and determine what caused the wrong-way vehicle to end up going the wrong way. They are determined to find answers.
