San Francisco, CA (February 15, 2024) Sorrow flooded the lower deck of the Bay Bridge this morning as word spread of a deadly collision. Three people lost their lives and one other person was critically injured following a two-vehicle collision, authorities said. The traumatic crash took place at approximately 4:15 a.m. near Treasure Island, in the eastbound lanes of the Bay Bridge.
The sounds of squealing tires and metal colliding with metal echoed through the lower deck of the Bay Bridge on Thursday morning. A MINI Cooper was driving east when traffic came to a crawl. The MINI Cooper stopped, just as the vehicles in front of it had done. A Toyota Tacoma was driving behind the MINI Cooper and for reasons still unknown, slammed into the back of the car at a high speed.

The California Highway Patrol rushed to the lower deck of the Bay Bridge where they found the MINI Cooper completely smashed and the front of the Toyota truck was heavily damaged, as well. Paramedics rushed to help those who were injured and found two people inside the MINI Cooper with fatal injuries. It was evident that they had both been killed in the collision and with a heavy heart, authorities pronounced them both dead at the scene.
A third person in the MINI Cooper was alive, but in critical condition, officers said. They were rushed to San Francisco General Hospital to receive treatment for serious injuries they sustained in the crash. Medical personnel did everything they could to save the victim, but sadly, they were pronounced dead at the hospital, officers said.
The driver of the Toyota pickup truck was also injured and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Officials said they expect them to make a full recovery.
Officers had to close three eastbound lanes of the Bay Bridge as they cleaned the scene of debris and glass. The vehicles had to be towed from the bridge, as well, officers said. Investigators are working this case to determine what happened on the Bay Bridge early this morning.
