(San Diego, CA) A bus driver and a passenger died in a State Route 163 bus crash in the University Heights neighborhood of San Diego.
On Tuesday, August 5, at around 9 a.m., the State Route 163 bus crash occurred. According to the California Highway Patrol, it happened on the 163 Freeway, north of Washington Street.
When CHP officers investigated, they learned a Metropolitan Transit System bus drove on the freeway. At some point, the northbound bus veered off the freeway, crashing into a guardrail.
By the time San Diego Fire-Rescue Department firefighters arrived, they found the occupants of the vehicle trapped. When they extricated the passengers, paramedics took one of them and a 60-year-old bus MTS employee to hospitals.
After arriving at one of the hospitals, the medical staff pronounced the bus driver dead. According to CHP public-affairs Officer Kimerly Gonzalez, the cause and sequence the State Route 163 bus crash are under investigation by the CHP San Diego-area office.
