Oakdale, CA (July 29, 2024) An 11-year-old is in critical condition and a 9-year-old remains hospitalized after they were hit by a jet ski on Saturday afternoon, July 27th. The collision occurred at the Woodward Reservoir in Oakdale, right around 2:30 p.m., not far from the Bay View Boat Ramp. The person navigating the jet ski fled the scene, officers reported.

A 9-year-old child and an 11-year-old were swimming at the Woodward Reservior in Oakdale on Saturday afternoon. As the children played a jet ski approached. Without warning the jet ski not only got too close to the children, but ended up hitting them, reports indicated. Witnesses watched with shock as the jet ski quickly left the area, fleeing the scene.

Dispatchers began receiving 911 calls about the accident. Deputies with the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office replied to the calls and quickly made their way to the scene, accompanied by paramedics. The two children were quickly rushed to a local hospital to receive treatment for critical injuries. Officers reported that the 9-year-old is expected to make a full recovery, however the 11-year-old continues fighting for life, reports indicated.

Deputies spoke with witnesses at the scene and gathered as much evidence as they could. Witnesses were able to give deputies a description of the jet ski, as well as the person on it. Officers eventually found the suspect and arrested them. They now face felony hit-and-run charges, reports indicated. Deputies do not believe alcohol or drugs played a role in this horrible collision.
