Novato, CA (February 15,2024) Center Road in Novato had always been a safe place for two teens to ride their mountain bikes. As they rode on Tuesday, February 13th, everything changed. The two 15-year-old boys were hit by a DUI driver at the intersection of Holstrom Circle, authorities said. One of the teens sustained serious injuries in the collision and his friend watching in horror as the vehicle continued driving, eventually slamming into a pickup truck, according to the Novato Police Department.

Two teenage boys were pedaling their way along Center Road on their mountain bikes just as they had done so many times before. As they rode, a vehicle approached them and, with no warning, crashed right into the boys on their bicycles at the intersection of Holstrom Circle. The driver didn’t stop to check on them, but continued driving. They didn’t stop until they slammed into a Ford F-150 nearly 230 yards from the teenage boys.

When emergency crews arrived at the scene, they found one bike with a completely smashed bike wheel and a teenage boy lying on the ground, his friend near him. One of the boys sustained serious injuries in the collision and was rushed to a local hospital to receive treatment. The other boy was treated for minor injuries at the scene and then released to his parents. The occupants of the pickup that was hit sustained minor injuries in the accident, as well.

Officers felt that the driver of the vehicle that struck the boys appeared intoxicated, so they performed a sobriety test. The man failed the test and police officers learned that he was, in fact, under the influence of drugs that had been prescribed to him. The suspect was arrested at the scene and booked on felony hit-and-run charges causing injury, as well as charges of driving under the influence.

Our team at Accident News Now extends well wishes to the teenage boy who was seriously injured in this collision. We wish you a speedy and full recovery following this horrible accident.
