San Diego, CA (August 19, 2024) A chaotic accident occurred in San Diego on Sunday evening, August 18th, leaving one with serious injuries. It all happened in the Swan Canyon neighborhood just after 7:00 p.m., according to police reports. The man was riding a pocket bike and was struck by an SUV at the intersection of Chamoune Avenue and Thorn Street.

Initial reports indicated that the man had built a pocket bike and was taking it for a ride through the Swan Canyon neighborhood. As he approached the intersection of Chamoune Avenue and Thorn Street, he was struck by a 2016 Lexus SUV. Officers reported that the Lexus, driven by a 57-year-old woman, was heading north on Chamoune Avenue when the man ran a stop sign on the pocket bike. He entered the intersection as the Lexus was driving through. The SUV had no time to avoid the pocket bike and the two collided in the 4500 block of Thorn Street.

Officers with the San Diego Police Department arrived at the scene and found the man on the ground. According to reports, he wasn’t wearing a helmet at the time of the accident and sustained serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. Paramedics quickly transported the man to a local hospital, via ambulance, to receive treatment for his injuries. The woman driving the Lexus was not harmed in this accident, officers reported.

The San Diego Police Department’s Traffic Division is leading the investigation into this accident. They believe that intoxication was a factor in this collision in the Swan Canyon neighborhood. They are continuing to investigate to better understand exactly what happened. The man’s pocket bike sustained serious damage and was removed from this scene.
