(Huntington Beach, CA) A Pacific Coast Highway bike crash resulted in the death of Kolby Aipa, 20, in Huntington Beach.
On Saturday, August 2, a little after 10 p.m., the Pacific Coast Highway bike crash occurred. According to Huntington Beach police, it happened on the Pacific Coast Highway and Seapoint Street.
When police investigated, they learned Kolby Aipa, the grandson of iconic Hawaiian surfboard shaper Ben Aipa, was riding an e-bike at the time of the collision. Meanwhile, an unidentified 20-year-old man from Huntington Beach drove a Toyota Tacoma southbound on Pacific Coast Highway. Aipa reportedly hung onto the vehicle, when all of a sudden, the driver lost control of the vehicle. This caused the e-bike and truck to collide.
By the time paramedics arrived at the Pacific Coast Highway bike crash site, they found Kolby Aipa in critical condition and transported him to a hospital. Despite being put on life support, the surfer’s family announced Aipa died due to his injuries.
Kolby Aipa’s family set up a GoFundMe page to help cover funeral expenses.
