(Highland Park, California) At approximately 11 p.m., an E-bike vehicle crash occurred when the bike rider was struck and killed by a grey sedan going the same direction at the 4500 block of North Figueroa on September 30th.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the grey sedan traveled northbound in the second lane and struck the rider. Shortly after, the e-biker was ejected from the e-bike and collided onto the roadway.

When Los Angeles Fire Department personnel arrived, they transported the man to a local hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. The vehicle driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

Legal Analysis on the E-Bike Vehicle Crash

When a collision involves an e-bike and a vehicle, investigators may review law codes relating to who has the right of way, unlawful/lawful acts and certain punishments that the driver at fault may have to face.

Because the driver struck the e-biker, they have violated California Vehicle Code 27150 to which it states that all motor vehicles that are equipped with internal combustion engine and subject to register shall at all times equipped with an adequate muffler in constant operation and properly maintained to prevent any excessive or unusual noise, and no muffler or exhaust system shall be equipped with a cutout, bypass, or similar device. This is an important factor because any damages a motor vehicle experiences should not be operated as it can risk safety to the driver surrounding vehicles and pedestrians.

If the driver was under the influence of alcohol before striking the e-biker, then they have violated California Vehicle Code 23153. This code prohibits driving under the influence, specifically with a 0.08% of BAC or more, by weight and disobeying laws leading to injuries beside the driver.
