Sacramento, CA (June 12, 2024) Sadness covered the city of Sacramento as news spread of an accident that claimed a bicyclist’s life. Officers with the Sacramento Police Department reported that the accident between a bicyclist and a vehicle occurred around 10:30 p.m. at the intersection of 88th Street and Fruitridge Road. Unfortunately, the bicyclist, 36-year-old Jose Valladolid Ramirez, did not survive the accident.
Ramirez was riding at the intersection of 88th Street and Fruitridge Road on Monday night. The sun had set and darkness covered the city of Sacramento. Street lights and headlights on vehicles illuminated the way as people drove to and from their destinations. Suddenly, right around 10:30 p.m., Ramirez was struck by a vehicle at the intersection. The force from the collision threw him from the bicycle. He landed on the ground, motionless, with his damaged bicycle a few feet from him.

The Sacramento Police Department responded to the scene and found Ramirez on the ground. They rushed to his side, ready to administer life-saving treatment, but unfortunately, there was nothing they could do. With heavy hearts, they pronounced Ramirez dead at the scene.
After further investigation, authorities discovered that the driver of the car that hit Ramirez was under the influence of a drug. Police intend to book them in connection with drug possession and driving under the influence after they are released from the hospital, as they sustained injuries in the crash.
