North Orange County, CA (April 28, 2024) Just after 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 25th, a bicyclist was struck by a vehicle in North Orange County. It happened at the intersection of Campus Drive and W. Orangethorpe Avenue. The Fullerton Police Department reported that the bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
Reports indicated that the a male bicyclist was riding on Orangethorpe Avenue in the eastbound lane, west of Campus Drive. Officers said they are uncertain as to which direction the bicyclist was heading at the time of the accident. A black Dodge Journey was traveling east on Orangethrope Avenue in the no. 1 lane and struck the bicyclist. The impact threw the bicyclist from the bike, causing traumatic injuries.
Emergency personnel from Fullerton Fire arrived at the scene and found the bicyclist on the ground with critical injuries. Unfortunately, he had been killed in the collision and authorities pronounced him dead at the scene. The driver of the Dodge, a 19-year-old from Buena Park, remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities following the accident.
The bicycle was smashed following the accident and had to be hauled from the scene, officers reported. Investigators with the Fullerton Police Traffic Accident Department are heading this investigation. At this time, they do not believe any other vehicles were involved in this deadly accident. They also believe drugs and alcohol were not factors in this collision. Officers are determined to figure out what caused this deadly bicycle accident in North Orange County.
