Cathedral City, CA (May 9, 2024) Sad news spread through Cathedral City quickly, following the death of a 31-year-old bicyclist killed in a hit-and-run. The horrific collision occurred at the intersection of Landau Boulevard and Ramon Road just after 11:00 p.m., according to Mark Robles, a spokesperson for the Cathedral City Police Department.
The 31-year-0ld woman was riding a bicycle through the intersection of Landau Boulevard and Ramon Road when she was suddenly hit by a vehicle. The force threw her from her bicycle and sent her toppling to the ground at full force. The bicycle, now bent and damaged, slid across the roadway a few feet before stopping. The driver of the vehicle was legally supposed to stop and wait for authorities to arrive. Instead, they hit the gas and fled the scene, leaving the woman alone with critical injuries.
The Cathedral City Police Department arrived at the scene and found the woman on the ground with life-threatening injuries. Officers began life-saving measures as they waited for paramedics to arrive. The Cathedral City Fire Department arrived at the scene moments later and rushed to the woman’s side. Sadly, they discovered that there was nothing they could do as she had already succumbed to her injuries. With heavy hearts, in the middle of the intersection. they pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
Officers closed the eastbound lanes of Ramon Road at the intersection and began their investigation. They are determined to understand what caused this tragic collision and they also hope to find the driver responsible. The dented bicycle was removed from the roadway and officers reopened the area once they had gathered all of the information they could find.
