Napa County, CA (October 18, 2023) 2 bicyclists were killed on Silverado Trail in Napa County on Tuesday, October 17th, according to the California Highway Patrol. The accident occurred around 11:00 a.m. when hit by lumber that fell off a flatbed truck.

The bicyclists were riding along the Silverado Trail when they were killed by lumber that fell from a flatbed truck north of Oak Knoll Avenue, according to Officer Vince Pompliano with the CHP. A 3-axle 2018 Freightliner flatbed truck was hauling the lumber when it came loose. An investigation revealed that both bicyclists and the truck were going north when the accident occurred.
One of the bicyclists, believed to be in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 2nd bicyclist, a woman in her 40s, was taken to Queen of the Valley Medical Center where she later died from her injuries. The truck driver, a 55-year-old Vallejo man, stayed at the scene and cooperated with officers.
