(Costa Mesa, CA) Oscar Azael Macias, 20, was tragically killed after the driver of a car in which he was riding crashed into a power pole amidst a police pursuit.
Two men were charged today in connection with the pursuit that happened on Sunday, January 26.
Anthony Rodolfo Samayoa, 20, was charged with gross vehicular manslaughter, evading police causing death, conspiracy and two counts of attempted vehicle theft. Co-defendant Sergio Avalos, 21, was charged with conspiracy and two counts of attempted vehicle theft. Samayoa was the driver, and Avalos was in the backseat. Macias had been in the front passenger seat.
Newport Beach Police started the pursuit shortly before 3 a.m. The chase led to Costa Mesa, where Samayoa struck the power pole at Santa Ana Avenue and 22nd Street.
