Fresno, CA (December 10, 2024) Heavy fog in Fresno was a likely factor in a fatal collision at the intersection of McCall Avenue and Parlier Avenue. Armando Jimenez Cadena, 36, tragically lost his life in the terrible crash.
At about 9:30 a.m., Cadena was reportedly driving a Chevrolet westbound on Parlier Avenue and stopped at a stop sign before entering the intersection. As he did so, his vehicle struck the right front side of a commercial big rig truck that was driving northbound.
The impact was strong enough to force Cadena’s vehicle underneath the truck, causing it to ignite in flames. He was ejected in the collision, ending up on the roadway. A female passenger in his car was hospitalized–the latest reports state that she remains in critical condition.
The truck driver was not injured.
Fresno and surrounding areas are experiencing an increase in fog-related crashes. The dense fog decreases visibility, leading to serious consequences for motorists. If you have to drive in heavy fog, the National Weather Service advises that you take it slow. If you need to, allow yourself extra time to reach your destination so that you’re not tempted to rush and speed. Make sure to make your vehicle visible by using your low-beam headlights, and use fog lights if you have them.
