Bakersfield, CA (November 7, 2024) A two-vehicle collision occurred on Elmo Highway in Bakersfield on October 14th, 2024. 62-year-old Filamer Barayuga Simpliciano, a resident of Delano, was killed in the accident. It happened at approximately 4:26 p.m. near Scofield Avenue.
A gray 2016 Ram 3500 was headed east on Elmo Highway, driven by a 36-year-old man from Porterville. At the same time, a 1993 Toyota Camry headed north on Scofield Avenue. The two vehicles slammed into each other at high speeds in the middle of the intersection. The damaged vehicles blocked traffic and debris and glass were thrown all over the roadway, reports indicated.
Emergency personnel made their way to Elmo Highway and found the two vehicles sitting in the middle of the intersection. Both had sustained major damage in the collision. Officers hurried to the vehicles, prepared to give life-saving measures to anyone in need. Sadly, they discovered Simpliciano and two others deceased inside the Toyota. The driver of the ram was taken to Kern Medcial, via ambulance, with moderate injuries, officers reported.
Investigators gathered evidence and took statements at the scene. They are working to determine not only what caused this accident, but who was at fault. Tow trucks arrived to remove both of the damaged vehicles from the roadway and crews cleaned the debris from the intersection, allowing traffic to resume.
