Apple Valley, CA (October 23, 2024) Sadness blanketed the community of Apple Valley following the tragic death of a 79-year-old woman. The female pedestrian was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver on Monday night, October 21st, 2024, around 10:15 p.m. It happened on the Outer Highway 18, not far from Pohez Road.

Although it was dark in Apple Valley on Monday night, street lights lit up the roads and headlights illuminated paths for motorists. A 79-year-old female was walking along Old Highway 18 when she was struck by a vehicle around 10:15 p.m. She was knocked to the ground with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the vehicle fled eastbound on the highway, according to reports.

Deputies with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department arrived at the scene and found the victim on the ground in critical condition. Paramedics immediately placed her inside and ambulance and rushed her to a local hospital to receive treatment. The medical staff did everything they could, but the woman’s injuries were too severe and she succumbed to them. Sadly, she was pronounced dead at the hospital by authorities.

Investigators had to close Outer Highway 18 from Tao Road to Pohez Road for nearly five hours while they investigated the scene. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Major Accident Investigation Tram (M.A.I.T.) is leading this investigation. They are asking anyone with information to contact them at the We-Tip Hotline at 1-800-78CRIME. Officers are determined to find the suspect vehicle and, in turn, bring the driver to justice.
