Santa Maria, CA (October 15, 2024) The community of Santa Maria remains saddened by a deadly hit-and-run accident that claimed a toddler’s life on October 13th. Reports indicated that the fatal accident occurred just after 1:00 p.m. on West Cypress Street.

It was just after 1 o’clock on Sunday afternoon, October 13th, 2024, when 911 calls began flooding the Santa Maria Police Department dispatch. Officers hurried to the 600 block of West Cypress Street with their lights flashing and sirens blaring. Lt. Paul Van Meel told News sources that a witness saw a vehicle hit a toddler in the roadway and then fled the scene. Officers hurried to the toddler and began performing life-saving measures as they waited for paramedics to arrive.

The toddler had sustained life-threatening injuries and was rushed to Marian Regional Medical Center to receive immediate emergency treatment. The medical staff at the hospital did everything they could, but the toddler’s injuries were too severe. With heavy hearts, authorities pronounced the 1-year-old dead at the hospital.

The Santa Maria Police Department’s Traffic Bureau is investigating this accident. They are asking that anyone with information regarding this traumatic and devastating hit-and-run contact them at 805-928-3781, ext. 2315, and ask for Officer Robles. Authorities are determined to find the vehicle responsible and bring the driver to justice for this horrific collision.
