Bakersfield, CA (October 10, 2024) Tragedy struck the community of Bakersfield when a pickup truck slammed into a parked car on September 28th, 2024. The unlicensed driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the deadly collision, according to police reports. 47-year-old Lorena De La Torre-Luna was killed in the collision and another person was seriously injured. It happened around 11:15 p.m. on East Truxtun Avenue, between Robinson Street and Miller Street.

It was a late Saturday night as Lorena De La Torre-Luna and another person sat in a car, parked at the curb of 1200 East Truxtun Avenue. Officials do not know if they had just arrived and were about to get out of the vehicle, or if they were about to leave. As they sat in the parked car, a Dodge Durango was heading west on the same road. The pickup truck slammed into the parked car at a fairly high rate of speed, reports indicated.

Emergency personnel arrived at the scene and found the two damaged vehicles sitting in the roadway. They rushed to give medical aid to anyone in need and found the driver of the parked car with fatal injuries. Lorena De La Torre-Luna, 47, was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities. The passenger in the vehicle was alive but had sustained life-threatening injuries. Paramedics rushed the victim to a local hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the pickup was identified as Martin Alameda Sanchez, 25, was questioned by police. Officers discovered that he had been driving without a license and also had a blood alcohol level of 0.257. Sanchez was arrested and faces charges of driving without a license or insurance, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, DUI causing injury and second-degree murder.

All of us at Accident News Now extend our deepest condolences to the family of Lorena De La Torre-Luna. We also wish the passenger a full recovery after his horrible accident.
