Lebec, CA (October 9, 2024) Two women lost their lives in a rollover crash on the 5 Freeway, just outside of Lebec, on Saturday afternoon, October 5th, 2024. The fatal accident occurred just before 12:30 p.m., not far from the Lebec Service Road, according to reports.
Initial reports indicated that a 2016 Hyundai was heading north on Interstate 5 with five occupants inside. As the vehicle traveled, it suddenly veered off the roadway and began to tip, until it overturned. It came to a stop on its roof on the side of the road, reports indicated.
Emergency personnel arrived at the scene and found the four occupants inside the vehicle. One of the occupants, a 70-year-old woman from Fresno, was found with fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Paramedics requested a medical helicopter and the other three occupants were airlifted to hospitals in the area to receive treatment. One of the occupants, a 67-year-old woman, also from Fresno, succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. The other two victims were hospitalized, but there have been no updates on their conditions.

Investigators are working to determine what caused this collision on Interstate 5 in Lebec. The Hyundai was towed from the scene and a trail of debris was cleared from the roadway, as well.
