Corning, CA (October 8, 2024) Just after midnight, on Monday morning, October 7th, 2024, a pedestrian was struck and killed in Corning. The accident happened on Interstate 5 in Tehama County, according to reports. The pedestrian, a 39-year-old Corning man, was struck in the northbound lanes, not far from Liberal Avenue.
A 52-year-old Fresno woman was driving a Ford Edge north on Interstate 5 in Fresno, when she struck a man in the roadway. Reports indicated that she immediately stopped and called 911. Moments later, a Ford Crown Victoria, driven by a 71-year-old Orland man, approached the first vehicle on Interstate 5. By the time he saw the stopped Ford Edge in the roadway, it was too late to react. The Crown Victoria slammed into the stopped Ford Edge.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene on Interstate 5 and found the pedestrian on the ground. They hurried to the victim’s side, but there was nothing they could do. Unfortunately, the man pedestrian had been killed in the accident. Sadly, authorities pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene. The 71-year-old driver of the Crown Victoria was found with serious injuries, officers reported. Paramedics rushed him to Enloe Health to receive emergency medical treatment. The woman driving the Ford Edge was also injured when her vehicle was struck. She was taken to a hospital for treatment, as well.
Officers are working to determine what exactly happened on that stretch of freeway in Corning. As of now, the investigation is ongoing, officers reported. Tow trucks arrived to remove the damaged vehicles from the roadway and the debris was cleaned up as quickly as possible.
