Victorville, CA (August 21, 2024) Sadness fell over the community of Victorville as word spread of a juvenile pedestrian’s death. It all happened on Tuesday night, August 20, 2024, on Mesa View Drive, according to reports. Reports from witnesses say the young victim was only 13-15 years old. To add to this tragedy, the driver of the vehicle fled the scene, leaving the juvenile alone with fatal injuries.

It was 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday night, August 20th, as a young teenager walked along Mesa View Drive, not far from Olivine Road. The sun had already set, as the young Hispanic boy walked through the darkness. As he walked, carrying a bag of chips and drinks, a royal blue vehicle was heading south on Mesa View Road. Without warning, the vehicle hit the boy, knocking him to the ground. The vehicle then fled the scene, leaving the boy behind, according to reports.

A witness pulled over and called 911 from the scene. Emergency personnel arrived and found the juvenile on the ground. Officers reported that he was wearing black jeans and a black jacket. He laid on the ground, motionless, surrounded by the spilled drinks and the bag of chips. Officers called for a medical helicopter to come to the scene. Within minutes, a Mercy Air helicopter arrived, landing at Sunset Ridge Park. The boy was carefully loaded into the air ambulance and flown to Loma Linda University Medical Center. The medical staff did everything they could to save the boy’s life, but his injuries were too severe. With heavy hearts, they pronounced the young pedestrian dead at the hospital.

Officers had to close Mesa View Drive in both directions for approximately an hour following the collision. They investigated the scene and took statements from witnesses. Officers are determined to find the vehicle that fled the scene and, in doing so, bring the responsible party to justice.
