Santa Clarita, CA (August 2, 2024) Sadness spread through the community of Santa Clarita on Thursday night, following a single-vehicle accident that claimed one life and left three others injured. It happened on the Sierra Highway at Rowher Canyon Road, just before 10:30 p.m., according to reports.

Just after 10:00 p.m., an off-road vehicle was traveling through Santa Clarita on the Sierra Highway. For reasons that are still unknown, the driver lost control of the vehicle and left the roadway. The vehicle went down an embankment before coming to a crashing stop at the bottom. The off-road vehicle sustained major damage in the accident and was left trapped at the bottom of the dark embankment, according to A. De Los Reyes with the California Highway Patrol.

Dispatchers received the call about the accident at approximately 10:22 p.m. Emergency crews arrived at the scene and found the vehicle in the darkness, at the bottom of the embankment. Officers made their way down the embankment, flash lights in hand, and found four people inside the vehicle. Unfortunately, one had sustained fatal injuries in the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene. The other three people were all injured, according to reports.

Offices requested the aid of a search and rescue team to help get the injured victims from the bottom of the steep embankment. They also had to assist with removing the deceased victim form the vehicle. Once everyone had been safely removed, authorities worked to bring the vehicle from the bottom of the embankment, as well. Paramedics transported the three injured people to a local hospital to receive treatment for injuries they sustained during the accident.

Detectives at the scene gathered evidence and are working diligently to try and determine what exactly happened on that summer night. They are piecing together what exactly caused this fatal Santa Clarita accident.
