San Mateo County, CA (July 28, 2024) A tragic collision occurred on Highway 1 in San Mateo County on Friday morning, July 2024. A single vehicle lost control in the area known as Devil’s Slide, leaving three people dead. 28-year-old Angelica Gacho, of San Francisco, 36-year-old Brylyn Aroma, of Fort Riley, Kansas, and 29-year-old Mohammad Noory, also from San Francisco, all lost their lives.  It happened around 11:40 a.m. between Montara and Pacifica, not far from Tom Lantos Tunnel, officers reported.

Reports indicated that a gray, two-door sedan was traveling along Highway 1 in San Mateo County. As the vehicle headed along the area of Devil’s Slide, the driver suddenly lost control of the vehicle. Within seconds, the vehicle went down an embankment and came to a stop 300 to 400 feet from the roadway above, according to reports.

Dispatchers received the 911 calls and the California Highway Patrol was the first to arrive at the scene. Emergency crews had to repel down the embankment to get to the vehicles below. As officers carefully went down, they noticed the vehicle was badly smashed and damaged. Once they reached the bottom, they hurried to help anyone in need. Authorities requested an emergency helicopter to come to the scene and assist, but reports indicated that the weather was bad and the helicopter couldn’t help.

The car was completely smashed and destroyed, reports indicated. A trail of glass and debris was spread down the embankment and officers braced themselves as they approached the vehicle. Inside, they found three people, all unresponsive. They were ready to begin emergency life-saving measures, but there was nothing they could do. Sadly, at the bottom of that steep embankment, they pronounced the occupants dead at the scene.
