Las Vegas, NV (July 21, 2024) A senseless two-vehicle accident caused by a suspected DUI driver nearly killed a pedestrian on Friday night. The pedestrian was struck and critically injured at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Friday, July 19th. According to reports, the accident happened at the intersection of Tropicana Avenue and Decatur Boulevard. 35-year-old Jessica Carreon was arrested for DUI charges.

A Chevrolet Malibu was sitting at a red light on northbound Decatur Boulevard as a Lexus GS350 headed south at a high rate of speed. For reasons that officers still don’t quite understand, the driver of the Chevy decided to make a left turn onto Tropicana Avenue, running the red light. The Lexus had no time to react and slammed into the Chevy. The force from the impact sent the Chevy onto the sidewalk, where a pedestrian was walking.

Police officers arrived at the scene and found the pedestrian on the ground as well as two damaged vehicles. The pedestrian had sustained life-threatening injuries in the accident, but was still alive, according to reports. Paramedics loaded them into an ambulance and rushed them to a nearby hospital to receive emergency treatment. The drivers of both the Chevy and the Lexus were also both injured in the collision, officers reported. They were also taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The driver of the Chevrolet, identified as 35-year-old Jessica Carreon, showed signs of intoxication. Officers determined that she had been driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. She was placed in handcuffs and arrest, according to reports. She faces several charges and is scheduled to appear in court soon.
