Arden-Arcade, CA (July 6, 2024) A pedestrian sustained life-threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle on the 4th of July. Officers reported that the collision occurred in the early morning hours, just after 3:30 a.m., at the intersection of Watt Avenue and Auburn Boulevard. The Sacramento Police Department reported that the pedestrian accident took place in the Del Paso Park neighborhood, and a DUI driver was arrested at the scene.

A pedestrian was walking through the Del Paso Park neighborhood in Arden-Arcade, approaching the intersection of Watt Avenue and Auburn Boulevard. It was dark, as it was only 3:35 in the morning, as the pedestrian walked. A vehicle approached the intersection and ended up hitting the pedestrian, officers reported. The force from the collision threw the pedestrian several feet from the vehicle.

Officers arrived at the scene to find the pedestrian on the ground. They had sustained life-threatening injuries, but were still alive, reports indicated. Paramedics quickly loaded the victim into an ambulance and rushed them to a local hospital to receive treatment. They remain in critical condition, according to reports. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene but officers said it was obvious they were intoxicated. The driver was arrested at the scene by Sacramento Police officers and faces several charges.

Officers gathered evidence at the scene and called a tow truck to remove the intoxicated driver’s vehicle from the scene. Officers want to remind drivers that they do not take intoxication lightly. Getting behind the wheel of a vehicle while intoxicated puts everyone, including yourself, in danger. The intersection remained closed for several hours as officers conducted their investigation.
