Las Vegas, NV (July 3, 2024)
A collision occurred on Tuesday evening in the southeast Las Vegas Valley. The circumstances surrounding it are quite unusual. Two people were injured, one seriously.
A police officer was helping a pedestrian on South Lamb Boulevard in the parking lot of a convenience store around 6:25 p.m. The officer, who was standing next to his motorcycle as he helped the citizen, suddenly saw a 2007 Toyota Sienna minivan coming toward him.
The minivan struck the motorcycle, causing it to crash into the policeman. He sustained moderate injuries and was taken to UMC Trauma. The van then continued moving and struck the pedestrian, who was seriously injured and taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center. Their current conditions are not known.
The officer has been identified as 32-year-old Fernando Lua, and the pedestrian has been identified as 63-year-old Kevin Lynch from Las Vegas.

Oddly, investigation has revealed that the collision might have been caused by a “mechanical defect” in the minivan. The driver has been cooperating with officers and is not suspected to have been under the influence.
