Desert Center, CA (June 18, 2024) The community of Desert Center is waking up to devastating news today. A fiery, two-vehicle collision between a semi-truck and a passenger vehicle occurred on Interstate 10 just after midnight, according to reports. The traumatic accident claimed one person’s life, officers said.

Interstate 10 was dark after midnight, as vehicles traveled through Desert Center. Mere minutes after midnight, a passenger vehicle was traveling behind a semi-truck in the eastbound lanes, near Eagle Mountain Road. For reasons that are still unknown, the vehicle crashed into the back of the semi-truck, officers reported. The vehicle caught on fire and the driver of the semi-truck stood, helpless, watching it all unfold as he waited, anxiously, for authorities to arrive.

The California Highway Patrol arrived at the scene with the Riverside County Fire Department. Upon arrival, they save the vehicle in flames, partially under the semi-truck’s trailer. Firefighters worked as fast as they could to extinguish the flames, leaving the passenger vehicle in a black, soaked heap. They hurried to see if anyone was still inside the vehicle and found the driver, deceased. Sadly, they pronounced them dead at the scene and called for the coroner.

The driver of the semi-truck was uninjured and cooperated with authorities during their investigation. Officers had to request a tow truck to come and remove what was once a vehicle. The scene had to be cleaned following the investigation and officers are working to determine what caused this fatal and traumatic accident on Interstate 10.
