Long Beach, CA (June 17, 2024) A terrible accident occurred on Friday evening.
At the intersection of Carson Street and Gundry Avenue, a crash occurred around 10:40 p.m. Long Beach police officers were dispatched to the scene, which was located about two blocks east of Orange Avenue.
Reports from the initial investigation say that a pedestrian was walking across Carson Street, but outside of the crosswalk. A driver was heading east down the road when they struck the pedestrian with their vehicle. The driver remained with the victim and cooperated with authorities. Sadly, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, the driver is not under suspicion of speeding, impairment, nor distracted driving. It is unclear why the driver didn’t see the pedestrian crossing the road in front of them.
On Monday, the victim was identified as 39-year-old Benjamen Golonsky. Reports say he was homeless.
