Azusa, CA (June 5, 2024) The community of Azusa was blanketed in sadness following an accident on the 60 Freeway that tragically claimed one person’s life. The collision involved a semi-truck and two other vehicles, according to reports. It all happened just before 10:30 p.m. on Monday, June 3rd, not too far from Azusa Avenue.

It was dark on Monday night as vehicles traveled along the 60 Freeway in Azusa. At approximately 10:28 p.m., a semi-truck collided with two other vehicles in the westbound lanes of the freeway. The cause of the accident is still unknown, officers said. The damaged vehicles blocked the freeway following the accident, making it difficult for traffic to continue moving. They sat in the darkness, waiting for help to arrive.

The California Highway Patrol arrived at the scene and found the three vehicles in the middle of the freeway. They hurried to the vehicles to see if anyone was in need of medical attention. They found the driver of one of the vehicles unresponsive. Paramedics were ready to give life-saving measures, but sadly, the victim had been killed in the collision. He has been identified as Jay Park, a 55-year-old from Azusa.

Investigators gathered evidence and spoke with those involved in the accident to try and piece together what happened on the 60 Freeway that night. Officers are still not certain what transpired, but continue to investigate and are determined to not only learn what happened, but also hope to discover who was at fault.
