East County, CA (June 5, 2024) An accident in East County on Monday, June 3rd, left the community saddened. A 54-year-old Ramona man was killed when his motorcycle collided with another vehicle at the Golden Acorn Casino parking lot entrance on Old Highway 80. The accident occurred right around 5:45 p.m. and claimed the motorcyclist’s life, officers reported.

A 2022 Harley Davidson motorcycle was heading north on Old Highway 80 on Monday evening. At the same time, a Toyota Corolla was traveling south and attempted to turn left into the casino parking lot. The driver of the Toyota failed to yield for the motorcycle and turned directly in front of it. The motorcyclist slammed into the Toyota, according to reports. The impact sent the motorcyclist flying through the air before he landed, hard, on the pavement.

Emergency personnel hurried to the scene and found the motorcyclist on the ground, motionless. Paramedics were ready to administer life-saving treatments to the rider, but sadly, they had been killed in the collision. With heavy hearts, the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The motorcycle laid several feet from its rider with a dented wheel and damaged body. It had to be removed from the scene on the trailer, officers said.

Investigators took a statement from the driver of the Toyota who remained at the scene following the accident. I spoke with witnesses and gathered evidence at the scene before crews began cleaning up the debris before reopening the road to motorists. Officers are determined to figure out what exactly happened to cause this fatal accident. They want to understand why the Toyota didn’t yield to the motorcycle.
