      Federal Judge Larry Hicks Killed In Reno Pedestrian Accident

      Reno, NV (May 31, 2024) Flags all over Nevada were flown at half-staff following the sudden death of federal judge, Larry Hicks. 80-year-old Hicks died at the hospital after being hit by another vehicle in a Reno intersection, near the courthouse. Hicks was on foot as he made his way across the intersection of California Avenue and South Virginia Street at approximately 2:15 p.m. The community of Reno mourned this sudden loss, as news of this tragic death spread.

      Midtown in Reno can have a steady flow of traffic, however pedestrians are also frequently seen walking from building to building. This was the case on the afternoon of May 29th as U.S. District Court Judge Larry Hicks crossed at the intersection of California Avenue and South Virginia Street, near the federal courthouse. As he crossed on foot, he was suddenly struck by a vehicle in the intersection.

      Emergency personnel arrived at the scene and found Hicks alive, but suffering from life-threatening injuries. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where the medical staff did everything within their power to save his life. Sadly, his injuries were too severe and he was pronounced dead at the hospital.

      The driver of the vehicle remained at he scene and cooperated with authorities. Officers do not believe intoxication was a factor in this fatal accident. However, they continue to investigate this accident to determine exactly what happened in that Reno intersection.

      Judge Larry Hicks was a well-respected and deeply admired judge, according to friends and family. Flags remain at half-staff as the state continues to mourn the loss of this judge.
