Santa Clarita, CA (May 31, 2024) While responding to a burglary, a deputy was hit by a civilian vehicle in Santa Clarita. It all happened around 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29th, at the intersection of Bouquet Canyon Road and Newhall Ranch Road, according to reports. The collision left the deputy and two others with injuries.
A deputy with the Santa Clarita Valley Sherff’s Station was driving at a high rate of speed on Bouquet Canyon road, heading towards a burglary. The deputy vehicle had emergency lights flashing and its sirens were wailing as it hurried to the scene of the burglary. Suddenly, as the patrol vehicle sped through the intersection, another vehicle didn’t yield for the deputy and ended up broadsiding the patrol car. The force from the impact sent the deputy’s vehicle rolling. Reports said it rolled at least twice before it came to a stop on its wheels.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department was called to the scene and found the badly damaged patrol vehicle in the middle of the roadway. Another vehicle had sustained major front-end damage and was sitting in the middle of the intersection. Paramedics found the deputy with injuries and rushed him to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital to receive treatment. The civilian vehicle had two occupants who were both injured in the accident. They were also taken to a local hospital for treatment, officers reported.
Detectives worked the scene and are investigating this collision. However, they want to remind drivers to stay focused and be away of your surroundings.
