Phelan, CA (May 11, 2024) Tragedy struck the community of Phelan on May 2nd when 43-year-old Dustin Robert Odum was killed in a hit-and-run. Odum’s body was discovered on the side of the road following the fatal hit-and-run, reports indicated. It all transpired on Johnson Road sometime before 7:00 a.m. Officers reported that the body wasn’t found until approximately 7:00 a.m.
A senseless accident took place in Phelan when a driver struck a pedestrian and fled the scene, leaving the victim to die on the side of the road. The victim, Dustin Robert Odum, was walking along Johnson Road sometime before 7:00 a.m. when they were struck by a vehicle. The force from the collision threw Odum into the ditch on the side of the road, where he laid with life-threatening injuries. Instead of stopping, the driver hit the gas and fled the scene, reports indicated, leaving Odum alone and injured in the ditch.

Odum was discovered in the ditch by a passerby who called 911. Emergency personnel rushed to the scene between Phelan Road and Nielson Road and found the victim, motionless. Paramedics were ready to give life-saving measures, but Odum had already succumbed to his injuries and was, sadly, pronounced dead at the scene. Officers said it was obvious that the pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle.
They gathered evidence at the scene and called the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner to the scene. The California Highway Patrol and the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department sent officers to the scene to work this case.
