Bakersfield, CA (April 24, 2024) A multi-vehicle collision was caused by a street race in Bakersfield on Monday evening, April 22nd. The accident left three adults and one juvenile, none of whom were involved in the street race, with injuries. It happened on Old River Road at the intersection of White Lane just before 7:00 p.m., reports indicated.

The Bakersfield Police Department said two newer model Chevrolet Camaros were racing on Old River Road. Both vehicles sped towards the intersection at White Lane, where several cars were stopped at a red light. The white Camaro slammed into the stopped cars, officers said. The black Camaro avoided the cars but went over the center median and then continued driving east at a high speed, fleeing the scene.

Officers arrived at the scene and found several people with injuries. Three adults and one juvenile had sustained injuries in the collision. Paramedics transported all three to local hospitals, via ambulance, with non-life-threatening injuries.

The white Camaro, driven by 19-year-old Myelin Rosi Barrerra, remained at the scene and cooperated with police officers. Barrera was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment for injuries sustained in the crash, officers said. Once he was medically cleared, officers arrested Barrera and booked him into the Lerdo Jail. He faces charges of child endangerment, participating in illegal speed contest and reckless driving.

The driver of the black Camaro is still at large and officers are doing everything they can to find them. Witnesses said the black Camaro sustained front end damage and possibly undercarriage damage in the collision, before it fled the scene. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Bakersfield Police Department.
