East Los Angeles, CA (April 23, 2024) One person lost their life on Sunday night, April 21st, following a three-vehicle crash that involved a bus in East Los Angeles. The accident occurred at approximately 6:23 p.m. at the intersection of South Mednik Avenue and East 3rd Street, officers reported.

A blue Nissan sedan, a white Honda CR-V and a Metro Bus were involved in this fatal collision. The Nissan lost control and collided with a Metro Bus and the Honda near a bus stop. The force of the collision sent the Nissan crashing into the bus stop, officers said. Officers think the driver of the Nissan may have been intoxicated at the time of the collision.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department arrived at the scene along with the California Highway Patrol arrived at the scene and found the vehicles with major damage. The bus stop had been knocked down by the Nissan and debris and glass littered the intersection. Paramedics hurried to evaluate everyone involved and help anyone in need of medical attention. Sadly, they found one person with fatal injuries and pronounced them dead at the scene.

Officers did not say if the victim was in one of the vehicles or if they were waiting at the bus stop at the time of the crash. Officers spoke with those involved, as well as witnesses, and are continuing to investigate this collision to determine what exactly happened. Officers have reason to believe that the Nissan driver was driving while under the influence of alcohol at the time of this fatal accident, though.

Tow trucks were called to remove two of the vehicles from the scene and crews had to clean glass and debris from the intersection. The bus stop was reduced to rubble and needed attention as well, officers reported.
