South Lake Tahoe, CA (April 23, 2024) A three-vehicle, head-on, rollover collision occurred in South Lake Tahoe on Saturday, April 20th. The collision took place on Highway 50 at approximately 1:20 p.m., just west of Sierra. Zachary M. Leconte was arrested for DUI following the crash. Two people were taken to the hospital with injuries in this Tahoe Road crash.

Leconte was driving a 2012 Dodge van west on Highway 50 and suddenly made an unsafe left turn. He began turning where the highway curved and lost control of the van, officers said. The van veered into the eastbound lanes of the highway where Leconte crashed into a Toyota. The force from the collision caused the Toyota to roll before stopping on the south shoulder of the highway. The Dodge, however, continued moving west in the eastbound lanes of traffic and slammed, head-on, into a Honda. Both the van and Honda stopped in the middle of the eastbound lanes, blocking traffic on Highway 50.

Emergency personnel arrived at the scene and found all three vehicles with major damage, officers reported. Traffic was block and therefore beginning to back up as officers began diverting traffic away from the accident. Paramedics checked the three vehicles that were involved and found two people, one being Leconte, with significant injuries. The driver of the Honda and Leconte were both loaded into ambulances and transported to Barton Memorial Hospital to receive treatment.

Officers determined that Leconte exhibited signs of intoxication and he was arrested. Tow trucks had to remove all three vehicles from the highway and crews worked for hours clearing the highway of glass and debris.
