Fullerton, CA (April 16, 2024) A passenger tragically lost his life in a collision on Monday, April 15th, in Fullerton. The fatal accident occurred on Orangethorpe Avenue shortly afternoon noon, according to reports. Sadly, 62-year-old Irma Pedraza from Anaheim didn’t survive the crash. Two other people were injured in this Orange County collision.

A Toyota RAV4 was stopped at a red light at an Orangethorpe Avenue intersection. As they sat, waiting for the light to turn green, a BMW sedan was coming up behind them, but it wasn’t slowing down. At approximately 12:10 p.m., the BMW slammed into the back of the Toyota. The force from the impact caused the BMW to then collide with a pickup truck that was stopped at the same red light, but in a different lane.

The early afternoon was suddenly filled with sirens and flashing lights as emergency crews hurried to the scene. The Fullerton Police Department was the first to arrive at the scene. They found the three vehicles blocking the roadway and quickly checked to see if anyone had been hurt in the collision. They found Pedraza in the RAV4 SUV unresponsive. Sadly, officers pronounced her dead at the scene and called the coroner.

Paramedics arrived at the scene and began evaluating the other occupants in the three vehicles. They found the driver of the BMW, a 25-year-old man from Anaheim, with significant injuries. The driver of the Toyota was also injured in the collision. Both drivers were taken to a local hospital to receive treatment, officers reported.

The driver of the pickup truck received minor injuries and was treated at the scene, officers said. They were able to take a statement from the pickup truck driver to help with their investigation. Officers gathered evidence and are trying to determine what caused the BMW to rear-end the Toyota at this Fullerton intersection. Tow trucks had to remove the wrecked vehicles from the scene as officers directed traffic around the scene. Glass and debris were thrown all over the intersection and took crews a while to clean.
