Oakland, CA (April 8, 2024) Shock spread through the community of East Oakland this morning as news spread of a pedestrian’s death. It was approximately 12:45 a.m. on Monday morning, April 8th, when the pedestrian was struck by a hit-and-run driver. The tragic accident took place near the intersection of San Leandro Street and 75th Avenue.
The Oakland Police Department received a call regarding an injured person lying on the road. Officers arrived at the scene with paramedics, who quickly ran to give aid to the pedestrian. They began life-saving measures, but the pedestrian succumbed to their injuries. With heavy hearts, they pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene and called for the coroner.
Officers said that it was obvious that the pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle, judging from the injuries. There was no vehicle in sight, though, and officers believe the accident was a hit-and-run. The pedestrian was walking when they were struck. Officers believe the vehicle then fled the scene, leaving the pedestrian behind on the dark road, alone with life-threatening injuries.
Officers searched the scene for any evidence and are asking anyone with information to contact the Oakland Police Department Traffic Investigation Unit.
