Bakersfield, CA (March 31, 2024) A community was left in shock on Friday morning as news spread of a hit-and-run accident that left a woman with fatal injuries. The tragic accident took place in the 7700 block of S. Union Avenue in Bakersfield, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.
It was early morning on Friday, March 29th, as a woman walked east along S. Union Avenue. As she approached the intersection of Hosking Avenue, a northbound vehicle drove towards her. The Bakersfield Police Department reported that the vehicle was light-colored, but that is the only information that has been released, regarding the vehicle. As it approached the woman, it struck her. Officers still do not know what exactly happened.
As if hitting the woman wasn’t enough, the driving of the vehicle didn’t stop. They continued driving north on S. Union Avenue until they were out of sight, leaving the pedestrian with life-threatening injuries in the middle of the road.
The Bakersfield Police Department arrived at the scene, along with the Bakersfield Fire department and found the woman lying on the ground in serious condition. Paramedics rushed to give life-saving measures to the woman, but unfortunately, she was killed in the accident. With heavy hearts, they pronounced her dead at the scene and waited for the coroner to arrive.
Officers investigated the scene and are asking for any witnesses or anyone who has any information regarding this fatal hit-and-run accident to contact the Bakersfield Police Department. Investigators are determined to find the vehicle involved and, in turn, find the driver responsible for this deadly hit-and-run crash in Bakersfield.
